The Adventures of Agnes
CHAPTER TWO
Agnes finished her morning run and headed home. She had been reading in the Sunset Valley Times, that there were many children at the local orphange in need of homes. Agnes had thought about making a large donation to the orphange to help the children. But then she started thinking about her life with Eric and the half finished nursery upstairs.
Agnes made up her mind. She would adopt a child instead! She got on the phone with a social worker to discuss the adoption procedure. Agnes was a perfect candidate for adopting a child.
Agnes went down to the orphanage and met some of the children. She felt a special bond with one child in particular. Her name was Claire. She had soft blue eyes and dark hair. Agnes knew that this child was meant to be in her life. After a mountain of paper work and a few more visits with Claire, Agnes was declared the Parental Guardian of Claire. Agnes had less than a week to get the nursery ready Claire's arrival.
Agnes had the wallpaper replaced and the wood floors put down. She then purchased some educational toys and pink bedding. The big day was almost here! Agnes felt excited and nervous. What if being a mother didn't come naturally to her? She had been through such a tramatic experience, what if something didn't work out? Or what if Claire got injured? Agnes started to worry that she had made a huge mistake. But what could she do? Just before she started to have a melt down, there was a knock at the door. It was the social worker dropping Claire off.
As soon as Agnes held Claire, she knew she hadn't made a mistake. There was something about Claire that made Agnes feel totally at ease. Agnes saw the social worker out and took Claire straight up to her new room. Agnes could tell Claire had had a long and busy day and was ready for bed. Agnes put changed Claire into her pajamas and laid her into her crib. Agnes expected Claire to scream and fuss but Claire laid right down and slowly closed her eyes.
Agnes realized she had better get off to bed as well in case Claire woke up in the middle of the night. Agnes was having the most sound sleep when she heard a clanging noise in the corner of her bedroom. She opened her eyes but it was so dark she couldn't see what was going on. She sat up and turned on the light and saw that her house plant was floating in mid-air!
Agnes screamed and the plant hit the ground. Then a blue smoke came out of the planted and reformed. Agnes could not believe her eyes! It was the ghost of Eric!
